Situated in Northern Italy, Lake Como is a luxury attraction renowned for its ability to attract famed celebrities and VIPs of any sort. This favourite destination of Hollywood Stars has an unique appeal for all those people in search of tranquillity, exclusivity and serenity.

And that’s not all: thanks to its unique characteristics, Villas in Lake Como are also among the most coveted properties for real estate investors.

But where are the most idyllic spots of the lake? Where, and why, so many rich people decided to come to such beautiful places? Let’s find out.

Como

In the proximity of the lake, there is the city which gave the name to it: Como.

Next to both Lake Como and the Alps, this tourist destination is renown for a variety of attractions, such as:

  • Churches
  • Gardens
  • Museums
  • Theatres
  • Parks
  • Duomo’s Palace
  • The Basilica of Sant’Abbondio
  • Villa Olmo

Regarding Villa Olmo, it is interesting to note that this has been among the first villas of the area situated near the lake. Commissioned by marquis InnocenzoOdescalchi, a part of the ancient and famous Erba-Odescalchi Italian noble family, it was designed by the Swiss architect Simone Cantoni in 1797. This is only one of the many evidence of Lake Como being an attractive place for the highest society for a long, long time: literally centuries.

Menaggio

Thanks to a central location, it is the ideal spot to start exploring Lake Como and all the mountains surrounding it.

Completely immersed in nature, this is also a perfect place to practice sports and relax. Thanks to the nearby mountains, hiking is very appealing for many tourists, and cycling routes are extended through all the surrounding areas.

For those interested in history instead, Menaggio hosts various historical monuments of ancient times, which are dated back to the Roman Era until the Mediaeval and Renaissance times.

Regarding the many villas which are located in the Menaggio, we should remember the one chosen from Robert Pattinson, the actor famous for his role in Twilight. His villa is one of the most magnificent structures near Lake Como, structured in two main floors and more than 800 square metres. Its price? More than 5 million euros.

Laglio

Laglio is a little town with less than 1.000 inhabitants located on the westside of Lake Como, famous for being completely immersed in nature. A strip of land closed between Mount Colmegnone and the lake, the town has one of its most important attractions linked to one of the most famous stars of all times: George Cloney.

Since his arrival in 2002 in fact, the town became famous worldwide and paparazzi may storm it when Clooney passes by his property: Villa Oleandra.

Bought from the Heinz family for 10 million of dollars, this 18th century villa now has received offerings for more than 100 million: but George didn’t sell his villa. It is known that Clooney likes to stay in his Laglio’s villa for months through the year, and visit the surrounding towns with his motorcycle and his boat.

Because of that, it is rumoured that many of George’s VIP friends have bought or are looking for their own villa to buy in the same area, in front of the majestic Lake Como.

Tremezzo

Located to the western shore of the lake, Tremezzo is renowned to be one of the best tourist resorts in Como’s area and for its many villas.

Its most famous villa is Villa Carlotta. A villa built by an anonymous architect, it is admired for its botanical gardens and for being a museum. The collection hosted by Villa Carlotta’s gallery, we must remember the works of many famous sculptors such as Antonio Canova, Giovanni Migliara and Bertel Thorvaldsen.

Tremezzo is also known for Villa La Cassinella, the villa owned by Sir Richard Charles Nicholas Branson, a British billionaire and business magnate famous for founding the Virgin Group in the ’70s.The only access to the villa is through the lake, and it hosts many attractions such as a tennis court, a cinema hall, a gym and a swimming pool.
