How to Remodel Your Kitchen on a Budget

Most of us love a bargain or two. Combining this and saving money while making changes to our homes is always welcome news. But can you do a kitchen renovation on a budget? Well, according to the interior designers at Triple Heart Design, yes you can – provided you stick to some guidelines. Below are a few ideas for those who want a new look in their kitchen without spending a small fortune.

Do Not Change the Layout of Your Kitchen

When it comes to design, it is best to stick to the layout you already have if you want to save money. The cost of changing the entire layout and moving appliances and cabinets could make a huge dent in your budget. To save yourself big bucks, think about giving your cabinets a refresh rather than replacing them all. This might mean changing the doors and leaving the internal parts as they are, or simply repainting the doors.

The cheaper option will be repainting, and the good news is that this is a job you can take on yourself. The process will involve sanding, priming, and then painting. With so many online tutorials on how to do this correctly, you can have cabinets that look like new in no time. You can then replace the handles on the cabinets and drawers for a further refresh.

Keep Your Appliances

Unless your appliances are extremely old and are not working efficiently anymore, there is no reason why you should replace them. Your appliances can be scrubbed clean to freshen them up, and with the new-look cabinetry that you have painted, they will be as good as new.

A Fresh Coat of Paint

Perhaps the easiest way to change the look of a kitchen is to paint the walls in a completely different color. Although gray and white are popular colors for a kitchen, there are so many different options. If you love color, you could always choose one wall as a feature and paint it a nice olive green or even a burnt orange, depending on your own tastes. Some people like to choose a feature wall color to match their small kitchen appliances. The sky really is the limit when it comes to choosing paint colors. It is even worth asking your local hardware store if they can create a shade just for you.

Changing Countertops

Changing the countertops will instantly give the kitchen a new look, but countertops can be expensive, and anyway, you would need a professional to cut them to size and fit them for you. To save money, why not try to give them a revamp yourself. If you have wooden countertops, you could sand them down and then varnish them in a different shade. For other types of countertops, such as laminate, you can buy self-adhesive film that can then be applied to a clean surface. You do need to take care when doing this though to ensure you are not left with unsightly bubbles.

Refresh Your Tiles

If you have tiles in the kitchen, you could think about changing them for a new design or simply paint them to transform the look of your splashback. These days, you can find fabulous paints for tiles that will mimic the look of stone.

Summary

A kitchen remodel can be awfully expensive, but if you are prepared to put in some work yourself and are happy with the current layout of the space, you can create a completely new look with a few tins of paint and some hard graft.
